It's In the Can

Last weekend I learned how to can.

Can food.

Specifically mustard pickles.

They are a family tradition.  We (well some of us) salivate for them.  My grandma made them apparently when my dad and his siblings were little and continued on the tradition as they all grew up, got married and had kids of their own.

I can remember going out to the farm in Western Nebraska and coming home with at least one, hopefully more, jars of mustard pickles and some homemade cinnamon rolls.  The trips where we didn't come home with any were sad.  Very sad.

My aunt started making the mustard pickles since Grandma is a little too old to do it now.  This weekend I found out that my Grandma never ate the mustard pickles them but always made them because my Grandpa loved them.

So I drove all the way to Colorado to make mustard pickles.  With my aunt and cousins.

And in turn I knew I'd have to bring goodies.  Bribery we'll call it.

So I made these... (pardon the cell phone photos...I was too tired to get my big camera)

All because we slaved away and canned 52 jars of mustard pickles.  And if you'll notice you can see the golden ears of corn in the right side of the photo.  Yes, that's right...we also did sweet corn.

And dill pickles.

And then we called it quits.

And ate some cookies.

Please Don't Go!

Friends of ours are moving to Minnesota.  We're sad to see them leave the Cornhusker State but know they'll be back in the fall for football games and heck maybe even some road trips up to the land of 10,000 lakes.

There was a going away party.

We went to it.

I took cookies.

I went with a "moving" theme.

Not movie.

Moving.

Like a moving truck.

Or packing boxes.

And a key to their new home.

And a letter "A" because their last name starts with A.

They look pretty nifty all together.

Come home (to Nebraska) soon!

A Sweet Amazing Boy

A close friend of mine gave birth to a WONDERFUL little boy back in April.  He's fantastic but on top of being such a great little baby he's got a few uphill challenges.

Nothing that he's not determined to beat.

If you'd like to read his story so far you can visit a blog his parents keep updated.  God has made such an amazing child and gave him two of the best parents in the world.  Click here to go read about my buddy Blaise.

I made them a few little cookies to enjoy while they were back at Children's Hospital here in Omaha before his second surgery.

Nothing that a little heart can't fix, right?

If you click here on Blaise's blog - you can see him passing out the cookies to nurses at the hospital!

She's Gettin' Hitched

A good friend of mine asked me to make some cookies for her little sister's bachelorette party a few weeks ago.

I said I would happily oblige.

I can't show you all of the cookies.

Mainly because one is of a man-part that I just don't feel comfortable placing here.

The other ones are a teeny tiny bit better...but not by much.

Ok, get ready....

Happy Wedding Jenna!
