Ready Or Not...CookieCon Here I Come!

Ready or not...Salt Lake City...here I come.

With some cookies that are packaged up tighter than Fort Knox.

I've spent more time worrying and deciding and figuring out what to enter for the CookieCon Sugar Show that it became something I dreamed about.

Honestly, I dreamed about piping frosting.

That's when I knew I had a problem.

Who dreams about that?  Wow.  Pathetic.

I guess it's better than the dream you have where you're falling or running afraid from someone.  So I'll take piping frosting.

Back to the Sugar Show.

There are four categories:

  • Spring: It's that time of year- flower are blooming!
  • Once Upon a Time: Let fairy tales, fables and stories inspire.
  • Home Sweet Home: Where are you from?  Represent your hometown, state or country.  What makes your home special?
  • Anything Goes: Let your imagination run wild!  (Must be G or PG rated!)
  • Mystery Shape: The shape will be unveiled and decorated AT CookieCon!

So after searching for ideas and deciding what I thought I could actually accomplish I picked a Lion & Lamb for Spring, a Frog Prince for Once Upon a Time, Herbie Husker for Home Sweet Home, and a Gingerbread House for Anything Goes.

Executing all those were a different story.

If you're been following me on Facebook, you've seen my trials and tribulations, mainly with one entry...that dang Herbie Husker.

He was mighty difficult.

Stubborn.

And his face.  Oh his face.  He looked like he'd ran into a wall going 60 mph.  And it was a brick wall.

See.

They were embarrassing.  So bad that I threw those four away and started all over.

Yes, I did.  And thankfully the second round looked better.

So without further adieu here are the action shots.

And then I finally got around to decorating (and dreaming about decorating)...

Then I had a few mishaps. Good thing I had decorated four at the same time so I could pick the best options.

Then I went to Herbie Husker...twice...the are of the first round that all got thrown away.

Sidenote: For those of you who aren't from Nebraska, Herbie Husker is the mascot of the Nebraska Huskers and has become the pseudo state mascot.

Apparently I didn't take any pictures of the spring lion and lamb.  Well, I took a few and posted them on Facebook...but I forgot to use my nice camera to take some in-progress ones!

But overall I'm pretty happy with what I'm turning in for the CookieCon 2014 Sugar Art Show...

Packaged up...with more bubble wrap than a box should have...and they're being carried on.  This is handheld delivery to Salt Lake City.

Oh and I'm taking cookie cutters along too.  Why? Well, they have a table where you can participate in a cutter swap.  Thus the "leave a cutter, take a cutter" - so I'm taking what I have doubles of.  All of these I have two of.  I'm secretly really excited for this little table.

And some business cards.  I think I might want to have a few of those on hand.

So now, I pack.  And I get on a plane tomorrow!  Stay tuned for more updates.  And a huge picture dump after I get home.  I'm thinking I should possibly pack a second suitcase so I can shop at the vendor booths too.

The Huskers and a Hail Mary

I don't know what you were doing last week, specifically Saturday around 6:23 pm CST, but much of Husker Nation was watching this...

Talk about a crazy play.

And a fantastic victory that Husker Nation needed.

I'm sure it was my cookies that helped.

Right?

Either way...we'll take the win.

Play Ball!

Take me out to the ballgame....take me out to the...cookies.

It's my new version of the classic American baseball song.  Who doesn't love sugar cookies with baseball?

I can tell you the group that got these ate them all up before the tailgate was even over.

I didn't even have one leftover to snack on while we were packing it up before the baseball game started.

Not to mention this is the only photo I captured.  No "in-action" shots...I blinked and they were gone.

What was even better...those mighty Huskers won that evening as well.

The Horseshoe & The Huskers

I made Husker cookies this week - again - but yet I never get tired of them.  Some were for a customer who was hosting a tailgate at her home for the game and the others were for our own personal football tailgate.

Yes I made them for myself....

But I did use this opportunity to try out something a little different for the cookie design instead of the traditional football or helmet.

Nebraska football has many stoic and time honored traditions within it's program.  One specifically is the Tunnel Walk that happens before each home game and is shown on the huge screens in the stadium.  No matter what the theme is for that year the Tunnel Walk ends with a live camera shot of the players leaving their locker room, heading down the hallway and and as they exit the doors they all jump up to tap the horseshoe.

The Horseshoe - according to the Husker Athletic Website - says this:

For as long as anyone can remember, the Huskers have touched a lucky horseshoe on their way from the locker room to the field.  It has hung outside the locker room in a tradition that has been followed for over half a century, players reach up to touch the horseshoe for good luck as they make their way to the tunnel walk prior to each home game.

There is a great video here that showcases it if you are feeling like you want to watch a little GO BIG RED pump up.

So you wonder where all this is going?

Yes, I'm still talking about cookies.

But I needed to give that big explanation so you'd understand the cookie I made.

And you wouldn't think I was crazy.

Or that I'd mistakenly thought that it was St. Patrick's Day with the horseshoe.

This is my cookie version of the Husker Horseshoe...

It sort of resembles this...

But because I couldn't leave it at that - I also made some Husker cookies in the shape of the state of Nebraska and added a little corn detail to each.

Hopefully these will bring smiles to faces and a win against Michigan this weekend!

Yep, Still Making Husker Cookies

Did you know the football season spans over many months?

Shocking I know.

Yet I never get tired of making them.

Thinking up new ideas however is getting harder.

I've done a lot of searching online and through other people's cookie blogs for ideas.

This week I made two different sets of 2 dozen packages of Husker cookies.  One set is making it's way to Western Nebraska for a family gathering and the other flew on a plane to Ohio for the Nebraska vs. Ohio State game.

I hope both are enjoyed and bring us a victory!

Yes I realize on the above cookie the Nebraska team is short two players.  Apparently those two are in the end zone awaiting a long bomb pass for a touchdown.

Yeah, that's it.

It's Pig Skin Season

Pig Skin Season is football season.

And it's still going strong here in the Midwest!

And thankfully, so is the request for football themed cookies.

An order came in this week for three dozen cookies for a Nebraska Husker tailgate. So I jumped into it and away I went.

And I made extras for our own personal tailgate too - because who doesn't love a decorated sugar cookie on game day?!

Three dozen cookies turned into seven...

The acutal paying order of three dozen was comprised of...

Husker helmets...

Jersey's...

And N's with the Husker writing...

Good thing we won the game too!
